Abstract
The Reflecting Pool The Reflecting Pool is an audio-visual experience using projected footage as a sculptural material. This idea came to life through my personal fascination with memory’s role in the perception of the present [the here and now]. The artistic research of The Reflecting Pool interrogates themes of consciousness and sensation, to showcase my personal cognition of life around me and life experienced through me. How does memory displace present perception? How do memories change through an evolving version of self? The installation uses a single projector, perspex, and a mirror (and additional structural materials). The artistic contribution came to fruition through extensive rounds of practice based, speculative, and material research. The final result, is a spatial video experience drawing inspirations from the architecture of reflecting pools, and their purpose to serve as areas for contemplation and remembrance. The combination of screen, refraction, and reflection fills the room with dynamic movement and strong saturation of color.
Memory is represented through the projected found footage material which has been manipulated through digital editing techniques.
Presence is the living experience in which we witness the film through the projections, reflections, and refraction.
